Coghlan Beach is one of the shorter out-of-cove events in the Dolphin Club swim program, measuring approximately 1.3 miles. The walk there from the Dolphin Club is longer than the swim. It is unique in that the jump point from land is almost directly in the mainstream current. Coghlan Beach lies along the little peninsular spit of land along Yacht Harbor between the St Francis Yacht Club and the Wave Organ fronting the Marina Green in the Marina district. All of these landmarks (except the yacht club) are depicted in the poster as well as Pacific Heights and Nob Hill in the background. The beach is named after a member of our neighboring club so I'll let them tell that story. Due to its location, distance, and time of year when the water is warming, Coghlan Beach is great beginner swim for members becoming familiar with potentially rough bay waters.
